For anyone considering becoming a USCCA Firearms Instructor, wanting to increase their instructor knowledge, or wants to be state certified to teach New Mexico Concealed Carry, take a look at this post. This is a general idea of what you can expect for this training. It is done in 2 phases with eLearning or 8 hours of online learning required to be completed 2 weeks prior to the 2 day classroom and range portion. Useful information is below.
To go the USCCA Website and sign up for my USCCA Instructor Course. The link is here.
eLearning course MUST be completed two (2) weeks prior to class start date. This offers you an opportunity to become familiar with the course material prior to required classroom instruction. This eLearning is part of what you will be using for teach-backs to the class. I highly recommend you become very familiar with this information.
Check the Calendar for Dates : USCCA Instructor Development Course.
Classroom Instruction and Live Fire phase.
• Each Instructor Candidate will demonstrate a portion of several slides from many of the (5) chapters, and each peer candidate will have the opportunity to offer positive suggestions towards one another’s performances. Virtual Range exercise are included using SIRT pistols.
The course classroom portion will be held at Vigilant Firearms Training, 3915 Carlisle Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107. The Live Fire qualification will be held at the Del Norte Gun Club, 208 Torcida road, Rio Rancho, NM 87144.
The Target is an 8 inch circle on a silhouette overlay.
Qualifying Score = 80%, hits are scored on the 8 inch ring or smaller.
Up to 20 rounds are used for practice before Qualification Shooting using 50 rounds. I recommend bringing 100 rounds minimum.
After you complete the eLearning in Phase I, let me know.
One question that keeps coming up – does NM accept USCCA for CCW instructor and license purposes? The answer is yes. It is not a blanket acceptance, so each instructor will have to submit a syllabus that basically states you are following USCCA courseware and that is acceptable to NM DPS.
